SYTN is a parent education program — and a community movement — sparked by Dr. David Walsh and supported by the National Institute on Media and the Family.
Say Yes to No (SYTN) is a new parent education program–a series of workshops filled with practical strategies to help parents raise more self-aware, self-disciplined, self-reliant kids. It’s also a community movement that’s sweeping the nation.
SYTN began as a book, written by Dr. David Welsh founder of the National Institute on Media and the Family that was read and embraced by thousands of parents. Two states,
The ideas in the book struck a deep chord, and parents began asking for more: more answers, more tools, and more specifics. Thus the SYTN program was born! Today, an unprecedented coalition of parents, community leaders and educators are supporting the effort–and advancing the conversation.
SYTN groups are typically led by trained parent educators, and are organized and sponsored by a school, PTA/PTO, early education provider or church group. Some key ideas covered in the program include:
- The importance of self-discipline to a child’s development
- Setting and consistently enforcing limits and consequences
- Avoiding power struggles
- Helpful versus unhelpful praise
- Steps to prevent or reverse Discipline Deficit Disorder (DDD)

At Trinity two opportunities exist to learn about SYTN – either Sunday mornings from 9:15 – 10:15 AM or Friday mornings from 9-11 AM. Sunday morning classes begin on September 26th and will conclude on January 30th. Location of this class is in the music room. Parents, Grandparents or any interested adult is welcome!
The Friday morning classes will begin on September 24th and continue through April. This class is for parents/grandparents and 0-5 year old children. The class location is in Mrs. Friedrich’s classroom in the
