About Trinity Lutheran Church and Prince of Peace Lutheran Preschool

Trinity Lutheran Church has been a part of the Sauk Rapids community for over 100 years.  The church was blessed by offering a Pre – 8th grade school during those years.  Several years ago, Trinity Lutheran School became Prince of Peace (POP) Lutheran SchoolPOP School is governed by an association of Lutheran churches, one of which is Trinity.  Two association churches offer preschool at their sites –  Holy Cross in St. Cloud and Trinity in Sauk Rapids.  The K-8 school also has a preschool classroom.  Trinity offers six preschool sessions that meet either in the mornings or afternoons.  Also, year-round extended care is available from 6:15am – 6:00 pm.  Trinity Lutheran Church is committed to the education, care and spiritual development of the young child.

Child Development Program

Trinity Lutheran Child Development Center (CDC) and Prince of Peace Lutheran Preschool are state licensed.  This assures families that high standards have been met in the areas of space, equipment and teacher-child ratios, educators’ qualifications, policies and procedures.

The name of the center aptly portrays what we are all about and that is the development of the whole child throughout the whole day.  Parents along with teachers of both the preschool and extended care work together to set goals for the child and individualize the program in such a way that optimal growth takes place.

The center is open year-round from 6:15am to 6:00 pm, Monday-Friday serving children three years (at least 33 months) – Fifth grade. Preschool sessions consist of six options.  These options are a two, three, four or five day a week morning session or a two or three day a week afternoon session.  All of our classes run for three hours, either 8:30-11:30 am or 12:30-3:30 pm. Prices for these sessions range from $100.00 to $250.00 per month.  See the Prince of Peace Preschool Information Booklet for more information.

The extended care is offered to children who are enrolled in a POP preschool class at Trinity, a sibling of a preschooler, those on a waiting list for preschool and any interested family.  We offer flexible scheduling with just the actually hours used being billed at $3.75/hour.

The after school KOOL program for children through fifth grade is offered to siblings of preschoolers and other interested families.  This program begins at 2:30 and runs until 6:00 each week day with a cost of $8.00/ day or $3.75/hour.  Trinity also offers care on school vacation days.

Summer care is available from June- August from 6:15am – 6:00 pm.  Summer programs focus on a variety of themes which are explored through hands-on projects, including science experiments, field trips, sensory and play activities.  Children are placed in an age-appropriate classroom led by a licensed teacher.  Vacation Bible School is included as part of the program during June.

Note: Price adjustments are made as of September 1st, as needed.

Curriculum

A variety of early childhood theories and strategies are used in our program.  The Creative Curriculum and a variety of Christian curriculum materials are the primary sources that are used.  The Creative Curriculum is an acclaimed individualized early childhood curriculum that focuses on developmentally age appropriate application, creativity, learning through play, open-ended art,  social, emotional and physical development.  It is based on many early childhood theories.  The strength of this curriculum is that the best of each theory is used.  Some of the theories the CDC will use are Vygotsky (socio-cultural growth, use of dramatic play in advancing skills), Montessori (the ordering of the brain, cognitive growth, use of hands-on apparatus), and Reggio Emilia and other project approaches (art and literacy areas enhanced with growth in problem solving and creativity).

We believe play is the best vehicle through which children learn about themselves, the world around them and grow in their relationships with others.  Each day the teacher will pre-set the environment to reflect the theme of the week/month with the various children’s development in mind.
